Günther Oettinger to Lead on Digital Economy & Society in New Commission

gunther-oettingerFollowing the European elections held in May, the new President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, presented last month the Commissioners-designate and their respective portfolio of competences.

Günther Oettinger is the new Commissioner-designate for Digital Economy & Society. He will be responsible for ICT skills and learning, along with a range of other digital policy areas, including elements of the Digital Single Market, infrastructure, digital aspects of the creative industries, digital research, promoting e-Government, the Data Protection Regulation, and global internet governance.

Once approved by the European Parliament, the new Commission is expected to take office on 1 November.
