Over €9 Billion Proposed for Broadband Investment

The European Commission intends to spend €9.2 billion from 2014 to 2020 on broadband investment. A recent Communication from the European Commission outlines the proposal which is to be carried out as part of the €50 billion Connecting Europe Facility funding instrument.

In line with the Digital Agenda for Europe target that by 2020 there will be broadband access for all, this funding would support investment in fast and very fast broadband networks. The proposal along with others will be submitted to the European Parliament and the European Council of Ministers for discussion starting in 2012-2013.
