€600 million Public-Private Partnership for Future Internet Launched

The European Commission has recently announced the first phase of the Future Internet public-private partnership (FI-PPP), which aims to foster new and more innovative internet solutions. The partnership involves more than 170 different players from private companies, research organisations, academic institutions and public administrations. An overall investment of €600 million over five years will be provided, of which €300 million will be made available by the European Commission. The remaining half of the investment will come from research organisations, and public & industry sectors.

As internet data continues to increase at a rapid rate across Europe, this partnership aims to develop the innovative capability of the Internet and increase European competitiveness. The partners involved will work to develop new technologies, services and business models for the Internet of the Future.
