2009 European Year of Creativity and Innovation

The European Council has announced 2009 as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. The objective of the year is to raise awareness of the importance of creativity and innovation in society for personal, social and economic development as well as to stimulate education and research and promote policy debate.

The themes to be addressed include promoting ICTs as essential tools for expressing creativity and emphasising the importance of education and training for mathematics, science and technological studies. The overall focus of the year will be on the development of creative skills and the promotion of lifelong learning as key factors of a political strategy for improving EU competitiveness in the long term.
