EU: Broadband For All By 2010

In a recent interview, Ken Ducatel, Head of the Lisbon Strategy and i2010 Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate Information Society and Media expressed his optimism that the EU will meet the target of providing broadband Internet access for all of Europe by 2010.  In spite of some Member States’ concern that the lack of infrastructure may make this an ambitious challenge, Mr. Ducatel pointed to the proposed ‘Barroso Billion’, as a large part of the solution to 100% connectivity and highlighted the EC-funded broadband portal as a platform for sharing best practises.
